Item Description
Three items plus five newspaper clippings. 3-3/8x5" candid color photo of James Lovell is signed in ballpoint pen in 1-7/8" wide area at top. Signature is a bit light otherwise Exc. Comes with March 10, 1995 newspaper article with same photo in bw promoting event at performing arts center in York, PA March 14. Candid photo was likely taken at 1978 event when Lovell spoke at York College. Lovell's story of the near disastrous Apollo 13 mission was the basis for the Ron Howard movie "Apollo 13" with Tom Hanks portraying Lovell. Second photo is 8.5x11" matte finish paper titled "Astronaut Edward G. Gibson" showing him in space suit in laboratory. Left center has bold 4x4.5" marker signature "To Harry - Best Wishes Ed Gibson Skylab III 17 Aug 91". Photo has light rippling and creasing but still Fine. Comes with 1991 newspaper article showing Gibson speaking at mall in York, PA. Third item is 3.75x6-3/8" first day cover postcard for "Launch Of Apollo 12 Commander Charles Conrad" with image of astronauts working on moon. Postcard is postmarked Dec. 23 1969 with lengthy handwritten ink note on reverse apparently sent from Pete Conrad's sister Patricia C. Moss including text "Thought You Might Enjoy This Card Which I Picked Up At The Cape The Other Day Of Pete's Apollo 12 Launch. I Will Send One Of These Programs To My Brother". Exc. Comes with 1970 front page of newspaper which includes photo of mission commander Pete Conrad along with astronaut Alan Bean at large event in Harrisburg, PA. Also includes two obituaries from 1999 detailing Conrad's accidental death while riding motorcycle. Interesting cross section of astronaut items. From the collection of newspaper editor Harry McLaughlin and comes with Hake's COA.
