Auction #204 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1446 in auction 204
Item Description
Earliest shows Edward VII with a real photo celluloid 7/8" at center surrounded by multiple layers of very thin celluloid forming a flower-like design and measuring 1-7/8" dia. Reverse has a thin stickpin. A dirt speck on his portrait area and most of the pinpoint specks on the floral area have been removed. There is a small bit of soiling on the reverse and one petal has a tiny 1/8" hairline crack. Still an unusual piece and quite early. Second is 1.25" choice color button picturing George V and Queen Mary. Back paper is blank but piece has an English style copyright number on the curl and was probably produced by the London branch of Whitehead & Hoag. Cello has a number of fine long hairline scratches that catch reflected light but viewed normally they do not show at all. No stain and high gloss. Last is 1.25" with photo of George VI. This one reads "Crowned 1937/Labor And Weight/CWS." The three initials stand for a social cooperative founded in England in the mid-19th century. Surface has a few long scratches showing only in reflected light plus tiny traces of three age dots on extreme right edge. Still great color and unusual design for a royalty button.
