Item Description
Each is approximately 3.25x5.25". First is real photo postcard dated April 1917 in pencil on reverse of Cuban chess player Jose Raul Capablanca who was the Cuban Chess Player World Champion from 1921 to 1927, referred to as the “Human Chess Machine”. Trace of lt. aging with a few small hairline ink marks near bottom of image and just beneath. Fine. Second postcard is c.1930s showing group of eight men playing chess on four boards as crowd watches, titled “Chess-Players Waterfront Park St. Petersburg, Florida” published by Asheville Postcard Co. Asheville, N.C. Bit of corner tip edge wear, blank reverse has remnants from scrapbook removal but image is Fine. Just comes along. Capablanca postcard is rare. Nice pair to frame. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
