Item Description
6-1/8x8-1/8" glossy photo has superb close-up image of Suttles in uniform. Original negative used to make photo obviously had some very faint, small and scattered hairline scratches but photo itself is bright and Exc. Mule Suttles (1900-1966) was an American first baseman and outfielder who played most prominently with the Birmingham Black Barons, St. Louis Stars, and Newark Eagles. In five years with the Stars between 1926 and 1930 he led the league in home runs twice and in doubles, triples and batting average once each. In five East-West All-Star games he batted .412 with an .883 slugging percentage and hit the first home run ever in the history of the East-West game. He is second on the All Time list in Negro League play, hitting .327 with 133 home runs. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
