Item Description
Heavy and large 2-3/8" white metal w/about 90% silver luster remaining. Item is listed in Sullivan as JF 1856-1 and depicts the first Republican presidential candidate. Front has his high relief portrait and reads "Col. John C. Fremont, Born Jan. 21st, 1813." Beneath his neck is the name of the die-maker Anthony Pacquet. Reverse has wreath surrounding slogan "The Rocky Mountains Echo Back Fremont-The People's Choice For 1856. Constitutional Freedom." A ribbon wrapped around the wreath at bottom reads "Free Men/Soil." Very small bump on bottom side rim edge but overall an extremely Fine example w/vast majority of its luster remaining. From the Hake collection.
