Item Description
This collector's favorite is in white metal listed as Sullivan JB 1856-2 but it is the largest issue for his campaign as 1856-1 is an inaugural piece. Front of piece represents the name "Buchanan" by picturing a running buck w/large antlers above the barrel of a cannon. Numerous star designs surround the image of the buck and when the piece is read combining the images and text, it becomes "Buchanan And Breckinridge 1856." Reverse has image of Washington w/date of "1856" and the slogans "The Union Must & Shall Be Preserved-United We Stand Divided We Fall." There are three small and very ft. initials scratched to the right of Washington's bust reading "LTH." Rim has a couple of extremely tiny nicks hardly visible without magnification. Vast majority of the muted silver luster remains. Overall an Exc. example formerly in the Joe Brown collection.
