Item Description
1.5x2-3/8" Cuban card produced for the Aguilitas Cigarette brand. The baseball cards are a sub-set featuring 44 players from the Cuban Professional League. This extensive 900 card set also featured movie and stage stars, boxers and other subjects. Glossy photo front with text below portrait including name but erroneously identified as "Sam" followed by "Lloyd Base Ball." Crisp and strong image. The card back has the card number and an ad for Aguilitas (baseball subset was numbered 841-899). This is one of the key cards in the set. Lloyd is rated by Bill James as one of the top 30 baseball players of all time and was known as the "Black Wagner" as a comparison to Honus Wagner. See Lloyd photo (and expanded bio), item #1271. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
