Item Description
8x10" glossy photo showing five players in uniform for game held July 8, 1958 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. Shown are Fred Malzone (Boston Red Sox), HOF'er Mickey Mantle (New York Yankees), Rocky Colavito (Cleveland Indians), Bob Cerv (Kansas City Athletics), and Billy Martin (Detroit Tigers). Mantle is holding baseball bat in mid-air and three players are leaning on bats with Malzone and Martin holding gloves. Photographer text on front Salas New York in ink along with Salas ink stamp on back which has list of players in pencil along with description in Spanish which losely translates to "All-Star Game Against National League Headed By Willie Mays." Lt. handling wear but VF. Casey Stengel managed the AL team which won the game 4-3 over Fred Haney's NL. Vice President Nixon threw out the first pitch. Great photo showing noted players enjoying each other's company just before game. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
