Auction #205 - Part II
Item numbers 1427 through 3167 in auction 205
Item Description
12.75x13" thin art board has 12.25" dia. India ink image area with Uncle Sam reading a letter and saying "Gosh! Friend Glass Is No Piker Anyway!" Letter is supposed to be written by Secretary of Treasury Carter Glass (in office between 1918 and 1920) and includes text "Dear Uncle - I Recommend That You Borrow Ten Billion Dollars From The Banks On Treasury Notes Redeemable In Five Years". Reverse side has ink text "For Rollin Kirby", likely a gift to the noted political cartoonist. Art is unsigned but we believe to have been drawn by Odell Dean. Margins are trimmed unevenly, image area has .25" tear at left side edge and trace of lt. dust soil. Image area will mat and frame to Fine appearance. Nice ink work.
