Item Description
17.5x20-7/8" archival mat board has 11.5x14-7/8" window revealing superbly detailed charcoal original art of Conan with sword. Art has handwritten text on back in ink "Conan And The Idol Illustration By Hank Jankus Cover For Fantasy Newsletter". Art is Exc. Comes with 8.5x10-7/8" "Fantasy Newsletter" No.34 from March 1981 with this cover art printed in blue. Issue has 32 pages and editorial page by Paul Allen includes paragraph "I'm Happy To Welcome Back This Issue The Talents Of Hank Jankus, Who Contributed The Conan Cover Illustration. The Work Is A Preliminary One For A Conan Volume. He Will Be Illustrating For Donald M. Grant." Newsletter is of a sci-fi fantasy nature and includes candid photo of author Fritz Leiber. Art and newsletter are Exc. Hank Jankus (1929-1988) did thirteen covers in his career with this example being just his second cover ever done. He also did numerous story illustrations between 1979 and 1988. See next item #2194.
