Auction #205 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1426 in auction 205
Item Description
Copper 1-1/8" listed as DeWitt/Sullivan 1796-1. Obverse portrays him hanging from a gallows with double entendre text "End Of Paine." Reverse shows his famous book he titled "The Rights of Man" with its title satirically changed to "The Wrongs of Man." The token was cleaned long ago and now has somewhat bright but very pleasing copper finish which makes all details very clear. A Fine example of a very historic token showing British antipathy to the man known as the Godfather of the American Revolution.
