Item Description
Albert lists three varieties of this design in his book on American Uniform & Historical Buttons. Varieties are distinguished by the spacing between George Washington's initials as the smallest, the medium and the largest space. This is the variety with the largest spacing. Condition factors include: shank missing from reverse; 1/8" dia. hole at lower right apparently from being crudely mounted for display long ago; weaker strike on word "President" of the slogan "Long Live The President," although the only letter quite faint is the "T" of "President"; and a few minor indents on the surface outside the "GW" oval to the right. Still with the original patina and easily visible inscription. Scarce.
