Auction #205 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1426 in auction 205
Item Description
John Brown's 1859 raid at Harper's Ferry increased the agitation in some parts of the country to restrict the speech and press of abolitionists and other radical elements. This medal is a response to that move towards censorship. The piece is 1-1/16" of white metal with the front showing a raised arm with saber surrounded by text "Massachusetts For Justice." Reverse reads "Freedom Of Speech/We Never Will Surrender." Trivial wear. Much original luster. Scarce and Exc.
