Item Description
2" with metal back and bar pin reading "I Want The Super Carrier Built In N.Y. Naval Shipyard/B'klyn, N.Y." On July 29, 1948 President Harry Truman approved construction of five "Super Carriers" for which funds had been provided in a legislative act. The purpose of the ships was in part to transport aircraft for long range nuclear bombing. Limited funds and opposition from the United States Army and Air Force led to cancellation of the program and the one ship started, The United States, was not completed and the other four planned carriers were never built. Some scattered tiny rub marks show only in reflected light. VF and rare.
