Item Description
2x2-5/8" Cuban card issued as a premium by Billiken brand cigars. Cards in this set feature players from the 1923-24 Cuban Professional League. The set includes 15 cards each for the four teams that participated that season: Almendares, Habana, Marianao, Santa Clara. Glossy front features a bw photo, player's name and team "Cooper, Habana B.B.C." Back of the card has an ad for "Billiken". Cards in this elusive set are among the scarcest and most popular of the pre-war Cuban issues. Clear, sharp image. Cooper played nine seasons for the Detroit Stars and ten seasons for the Kansas City Monarchs. He also managed the Monarchs from 1937 to 1940, winning the pennant three times. He was elected to the National Baseball HOF in 2006. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
