Item numbers 1 through 1426 in auction 205
Item Description
From same set as #1222. Card front reads "Santa Clara B.B.C. Brown-Pitcher." Slight margin trim but both sides of card are clean and image is strong. He played three winters in Cuba, including a stint with the legendary Santa Clara team during their 1923-24 season. Considered one of the better pitchers in Negro League history, he was also known for serious off the field problems. His career came to a sudden halt in 1925 when, sought in connection with a New York homicide, he disappeared. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
