Item Description
Complete compilation of color daily episodes featured in "Chicago Tribune" in January-February 1947. This was the only Dick Tracy contest ever conducted by its banner newspaper. A total of $25,000 in prize money was offered to entrants who could solve "What Became Of The Black Bag With One Million Dollars". The group was collected by noted artist Dan Howard, who is referred to in Nebraska as the state's leading award-winning artist. He has been the recipient of one hundred prizes and awards and his work has been exhibited throughout the US and in over 350 showcases. The group was collected by Dan Howard as a teenager as a tribute to one of his idols, Chester Gould. He even visited him at the Tribune and could sign like him. 8.5x11.5" manila envelope has design for contest designed by Howard including "Chester Gould" signature done by Dan. Contains 8x10.25" hardcover notebook dated January 17, 1949-February 26, 1949 with neatly clipped contest panels pasted in along with stack of individual loose clippings related to the contest and Howard's handwritten ideas on sheet of paper to solve contest. Pages of notebook have lt. rippling from clippings being glued in place, otherwise group is Exc. A unique Dick Tracy item further enhanced by the influence of its original owner.
