Item Description
See Steamboat Willie production art #2207. Two sheets, each 9.5x12" c. 1928 go together to form combined lead pencil image of Mickey in cockpit of runaway plane with Minnie holding on to Mickey's clothing after falling out of plane. First sheet with Mickey and Minnie has 2.25x4.25" image area, second sheet with image of out-of-control plane has 3.5x9.75" image area. Bottom margin of first sheet has lead pencil numbers "W-325/389" with printed ink stamp number "128" on back. Second sheet has pencil number "325" at lower right corner of front and ink stamp number "168" on reverse. Both sheets have lt. margin aging, first sheet has 1.25" vertical tear at upper right corner not affecting image area. Image areas on both will mat and frame to near Exc. appearance. Truly historic original art for the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon ever made. Cartoon was produced in 1928 and released on March 17, 1929 making it the third Mickey Mouse cartoon ever shown in theaters. The storyline was inspired by Lindbergh's solo plane flight from New York to Paris in 1927. Last auction a similar pair sold for $3,415. This is the second of only two sets our consignor has to offer.
