Item numbers 1 through 1278 in auction 206
Item Description
From the Estate of Peter J. Vorzimmer, co-author of the 1967 NASA Project Gemini Chronology book. See item #1046 for Vorzimmer biography. Glossy photo has been professionally framed and matted to 7.25x9.5" in a 12.75x14.5" brushed aluminum frame w/UV glass. Photo of Gemini 7 Command Pilot Frank Borman II talking w/Mercury/Apollo astronaut Shepard, the first American in space. Shepard has signed "'You'll Have To Speak Louder!' Alan Shepard" in black felt tip pen. Borman (in spacesuit) has signed on his arm in black felt tip pen. Exc. Gemini 7 was launched on Dec. 4, 1965 and the objective was a rendezvous w/Gemini 6, using Gemini 7 as the rendezvous target. The original mission of Gemini 7 was planned to be a long duration flight, investigating the effects of 14 days in space on the human body. This doubled the length of time that anyone had been in space. Scarce to find these two astronauts signing the same photo. A great piece from a NASA insider present during the Golden Age of manned space exploration. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
