Item Description
1930s copyright King Features Syndicate Inc. 7.5x7.5x5.25" deep box has wonderful graphics on four sides of Popeye in boxing ring hitting Brutus as Olive Oyl and Sappo cheer him on at right ringside and Wimpy holds clock as timekeeper outside ring at left. Box is complete including all inside flaps. Top inside flaps illustrate toy's operations with directions. Box has some lt. dust soil and lt. scattered wear, most noticeable along outside seams. All inside seams have been taped. VG. Scarce. Toy has 7.25x7.25x2-7/8" tall tin base designed like ring including tin litho posts and striped cloth ropes. Side panels have two different images of crowd in line, one is Sappo and Professor Watasnozzle arguing and the other is Wimpy and Olive Oyl waiting in line. Comes with 3.5" tall cello figures of Popeye and Brutus. Ring appears to have original ropes. When toy is wound center circle rotates and when one fighter is knocked back round is over as toy stops. Attractive lithograph base includes sign "Big Fight: Popeye The Champ". Wonderful design including mechanism which randomly selects which figure is knocked out. Brutus’ nose is pushed in a bit, ring surface has lt. wear and dust soil. Toy is overall Fine. Working with great action and wonderful design. Complete with key.
