Item Description
4-7/8x7.25” glossy photo w/seated robot shaking hands w/woman has ink stamp date of Jan.7 on back printed caption which includes “Eric Robot, The Man Without A Soul, Is Shown Here Being Greeted By Mrs. Jane Huston In The Lounge Of A New York City Hotel.” Text also mentions British inventor A.H. Refell. Lt. handling creases and dust soil. Good. The first use of the word “robot” to describe an artificial person was in a 1921 play in Prague titled “R.U.R.”, the same initials which are on the chest of the robot in the photo. The play’s title stood for “Rossum’s Universal Robots.” Historic early robot photo.
