Item Description
Extensive group from 1955 regarding putting Clark Griffith, then President of the Washington Senators, in a storyline as a boy in a sequence of the Lone Ranger comic strip. Seven letters dated between Feb.17 and May 11 include six, each 8.5x11” typewritten. Two are on different variety sheets w/ “Lone Ranger Inc.” letterhead signed in ink by VP Raymond J. Meurer. Comes w/ three unsigned carbon copy responses from Clark Griffith, and one typed letter signed from Senators sponsor “National Bohemian Beer” Director of Sales Marketing. Group includes 7.25x10-5/8” TLS from Lone Ranger creator Fran Striker signed in ball point pen. All have wonderful content, including Striker mentioning his hearing the Senators win the 1924 World Series on his first radio, and Griffith’s fondness for the Lone Ranger on radio and TV. Comes w/9x14.5” stiff paper folder holding complete set of all six Sunday comic strip proof pages w/Clark Griffith storyline and ten page typewritten carbon copy of story as supplied by writer Striker. A few lt. handling creases here and there, proofs are trimmed a bit closely to fit into folder as made. Overall Fine/VF. A unique and historic one of a kind complete archive relating to the Lone Ranger and baseball, including great content letter w/rare Fran Striker signature.
