Item numbers 1 through 1278 in auction 206
Item Description
This large celluloid is 7.75" tall with a black metal back which has a hinged black sheet metal easel allowing it to stand up. Button features real photo of young black man wearing suspenders and tie. Beneath this, under the celluloid in a typewriter style typeface are the words "My Son" while below this printed in blue is "God Bless America." There is a narrow thin line of celluloid cracking around approx. 70% of the gold oval surrounding the portrait. In addition there is dark brown age stain around the perimeter of the button from around 4 o'clock on the right up to about 10 o'clock on the left. In spite of the damage the piece still displays well and with gloss. The earliest and largest real photo celluloid of a black soldier we have seen.See item 736 for 1915 celebration marking 50th anniversary of end of slavery.
