Item Description
Small buttons are 7/8" with three larger at 1.25" and one at 1.5". Group begins with three buttons issued for their tour of Canada in 1901. The first is a real photo featuring their portraits on a maple leaf captioned "Welcome" and "Duke And Duchess Of York." Metal back with bar pin. The next pair identify them as "Duke & Duchess Cornwall And York." One of these includes advertising for "Timmons' Ginger Ale/Quebec" which is where their tour began. Both of these have W&H papers. Upon the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 their titles changed and the next three buttons show the pair as "Prince And Princess Of Wales" plus single photos of them as "Prince Of Wales" and "Princes Of Wales." All three again have W&H backpapers. The next button, also with W&H paper, portrays successor to Queen Victoria with gorgeous color portrait of "King Edward VII." Next is a 1.5" button for his "Coronation 1902." Touch of stain on bottom edge. Upon his death the Prince and Princess of Wales become "King George V" and "Queen Mary." This is a superb color button for their "Coronation June 1911." This has a Bastian backpaper. All buttons are American made with the exception of the one from 1902. Also, other than this one, all are essentially NM to Mint. The first six buttons are particularly rare and these are the only examples we've seen. An outstanding royalty group.
