Item Description
Among the rarest 1930s gum cards are those issued by Dietz Gum Co. in packages of "Ball Players In Action Chewing Gum" (example wrapper and Babe Ruth card as shown in the catalog are for catalog purposes only and NOT included). These cards are so rare that a complete checklist may never be known. The set was originally cataloged as R304 in the "American Card Catalog." The cards feature photo portraits with cartoon body art drawn by former Major League pitcher Al Demaree, hence the set name. The cards were designed to be folded to stand up. They could then be used with the 7x14" cardboard game board we are offering here. As noted on both the wrapper and this game board "This Diamond Free...From Your Dealer For 10-Ball Player Chewing Gum Wrappers." Additional text on the board reads "How To Play Game By Radio/Place Players In Their Correct Positions/Move Players Around The Base Lines And On The Bases As The Radio Announcer Calls Out The Hits-Outs & Runs." Additional design includes basic ball field layout w/billboards on back wall including advertising for Dietz Gum and this card series. Centerfold as issued. Lt. aging but shows very little wear otherwise. Exc. A true rarity for the baseball card collector and the only example known to us.
