8.5x12" Zell Enterprises, International, Inc. (Zappa's manager) contract w/typed information concerning Nov. 13-14, 1970 concert dates at the Fillmore East in New York City. Contract is between concert promoter Bill Graham and Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. This first page has been signed by both Graham (signing in black felt tip pen) and Zappa's manager, who has signed for Zappa in blue ink. Back of this sheet has the typed names of band members Ian Underwood, Jeff Simmons, George Duke, Mark Volman, Howard Kaylan and Billy Mundi. Attached are four 8.5x11" contract riders noting specifications required by the band for these performances. Some of note include that there be no strobe lights, no video or sound recordings taken during the concert, and 100% headline billing for Zappa and his band. Graham has initialed these pages five times in pencil, signing his full name on the second and last pages in pencil alongside Zappa's manager, who has signed for him in blue ink. This contract was for two 50-minute shows per night and $10,000 upfront plus 50% of the gross (after taxes) over $30,000. Contract has handling wear and has two horizontal folds. Staple holes at top margins. Fine/VF. Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention were joined onstage on Nov. 14 by Grace Slick, The Acid Queen herself, best known as one of the lead singers of the rock groups The Great Society, Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship.
