Item numbers 1 through 1234 in auction 207
Item Description
The future British King who then abdicated made an extensive tour of Canada in 1919. These four pieces including his autograph are from that time. First is a 6.5” felt with elastic band on the back so it could be worn on the arm. Black lettering reads “British Royal Visit/212/Photo.” Attached to this is 1.75” button, although with a single hairline cello crack, having the same text as the arm band. Next is 2.5”x4” stiff pale purple card with inked caption “Press” along with inked name of the person it was issued to. Printed text reads “Landing Of His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales, KG/Admit (inked name) To The King’s Wharf/On Thursday 21st August, 1919/By Command (printed signature) Lt.-Col., Governor General’s Secretary And Military Secretary.” Minor dust soil. Next is 4.25” tall ribbon badge. Brass hanger with cello insert reads “Reception Committee.” Fabric below shows two tiny segments of a stickpin on the front. This is inserted though the fabric on the reverse although we are not sure why as there is a sewn seam holding the ribbon to the hanger bar. Ribbon reads “Press/St. John Welcomes H.R.H. The Prince Of Wales.” This is joined by means of a metal insert to a 1.25” portrait button. Last are two attached paper pages, apparently from an autograph album 3-3/8”x4.25”. First page upper left has clear fountain pen ink autograph “Edward P.” Reverse of this page has rectangular area with tanning on the blank paper plus a second sheet of paper also blank. Front displays essentially Mint. Comes with Hake’s COA.
