Auction #207 - Part II
Item numbers 1235 through 2949 in auction 207
Item Description
7.25x7.5" thick artboard with painted art and text. For wrapper design of 1938 Goudey Gum Co. product, final art varied slightly from this original piece. Great image of Santa holding a horseshoe and saying "Dimes To Dollars-Free!". Additional text on center design reads "Santa Claus Says: Save Your "Bucks" along w/1¢ issue price. Top/bottom margin text reads "How To Cash-In Your "Bucks"/Sincere Advise (sic) On How To Spend Your "Bucks" Savings" (few letters of "Savings" obscured). Reverse has penciled production number "103-F" as well as ink stamp text "This Dummy Is The Exclusive Property Of Kaumagraph Company/We Sent This To You Only For Approval In Connection With The Promotion For Printing Submitted To Us. It Is Not To Be Shown To Competitors As It Is Our Property And Should Be Returned Unless You O.K. Same And Accept Our Proposal." This obscure Goudey card issue (listed on page 372 of Non-Sports Bible) featured "Bucks" that could be redeemed for actual money. 10 Goudey Bucks got you one cent, and as much as a dollar could be obtained for 1,000 Bucks. Artboard has lt. aging but art is strong and bold, Exc. overall. Any 1930s gum card company original art is very rare and highly sought after. This is an exceptional example. Unique.
