Auction #208 - Part II
Item numbers 1278 through 3040 in auction 208
Item Description
Chrysoprase is a gemstone variety of chalcedony (a cryptocrystalline form of silica, which means that it is composed of crystals so fine that they cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification) that contains small quantities of nickel. Its color is normally apple-green, but varies to deep green. It is this apple green color (commonly refered to as Australian Jade because of its color and hardness) that makes it desirable. We are offering a one-sided carving of an Indian Chief's head, complete w/feathered warbonnet. What really sets this piece apart is the fact that the artist used the natural vein formation in the chrysoprase to make the warbonnet's feathers stand out. In addition, this piece has had a hole drilled on the underside and fits securely in a custom base of black onyx, which has been decorated w/a carving of an arrow crossing a crescent moon. The head measures 3.75x4.75" tall and the piece stands 7.5" tall w/the base. Exc.
