Auction #208 - Part II
Item numbers 1278 through 3040 in auction 208
Item Description
Chrysoprase is a gemstone variety of chalcedony (a cryptocrystalline form of silica, which means that it is composed of crystals so fine that they cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification) that contains small quantities of nickel. Its color is normally apple-green, but varies to deep green. It is the color of chrysoprase, rather than any pattern of markings, that makes it desirable. We are offering a 4.25" tall (total height w/lid) carved jar. What really sets this piece apart is the fact that the artist used the natural formation of the lt. green chrysoprase to make the three birds and flowers gracing the body and lid of the jar really stand out. Wonderfully designed and realized. Exc.
