Item Description
Bloodstone, also known as the mineral heliotrope, is a form of chalcedony (a translucent variety of quartz of various colors and waxy luster). The classic bloodstone is green chalcedony w/red inclusions of iron oxide or red jasper as seen in the specimen we are offering. The red inclusions are supposed to resemble blood, hence the name. This mineral is often used for carvings, as the red inclusions can be made to stand out from the surrounding rock, making for a vivid presentation. We are offering a carving of four dolphins leaping from the waves. The piece measures 7.5x5.5" tall overall. While it may appear that the dolphins were carved separately and attached, this is not the case, as they were carved from a solid block, the natural red to green coloration of the bloodstone adding to the piece's visual appeal. Additionally, this piece has had a hole drilled on the underside and fits onto a rod in a custom fit base of coral which rests on an obsidian base. Overall height is 8" tall. Exc. Wonderful display w/great colors.
