Item Description
Pair of 8.25x11.5" issues. Aug. 16, 1954 Vol 1 #1 has 148 pages. Cover has color photo of batter Ed Mathews at Milwaukee Stadium. Contents include "The Battle Of The Bubblegum" illustrated w/3-panel fold-out opening to 11.5x23.5" picturing 27 example cards from the Topps Gum 250 card set of 1954. Back of each card is also printed exactly like actual card. Players shown include - Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Ted Williams, Larry Doby, Gil Hodges. Baseball card sheet has lt. handling wear but is o/w Exc. Magazine has pinch creases and color rubs to spine and is Fine/VF. Historic. Vol. 1 #2 issue for Aug. 23, 1954 has 88 pages which includes 3-panel fold-out w/27 cards w/players shown on the front/stats on back. Black and white (previously unprinted) cards include Mickey Mantle and Enos Slaughter. In 1954 and 1955 Topps did not release any regular issue Mantle cards because Bowman had signed exclusive agreements w/players including Mantle. "The Yankees Are Still The Team To Beat" article explains why people collect baseball cards and what makes some more valuable than others. Baseball card sheet has lt. handling wear and a 3" crease at top corner that affects three cards as folded. Cards are o/w Exc. Magazine has 3" upper left corner crease and pinch creases to spine. Front cover has original address label. Light cover wear, Fine. A very interesting item for the baseball card enthusiast and Mantle completist.
