Item Description
15.5" long pressed metal free-wheeling truck. 1948. Truck has been hand-painted by a Marx factory artist over a production body for Marx's "Hi-Way Express" truck. The sides have matching "The Pause That Refreshes" slogans and incredibly detailed painting of several cases of glass Coca-Cola bottles, though the Coca-Cola name is not present. Each door also has 1" dia. circle w/raised hand holding bottle design against red bkg. Back fenders have painted Marx logos. Back of truck has door that opens and this door has attached 1.5x1.75" painted paper "Coca-Cola" bottle cap design. Underside of truck is marked "#2998X - s/11/48 - Glendale." This design was ultimately never produced. Truck shows moderate wear, w/scattered paint nicks/scratches. Separately attached tin grille has scattered oxidation and front left corner of trailer has 1" indent. VG. A great Coca-Cola item that was never produced. From the John Bowers Collection.
