Item Description
1-5/16" in silver which has naturally tarnished over the past century and one half. Issued by patriotic and political organization formed in Philadelphia in 1862 strongly backing Lincoln's administration and then becoming an active supporter for the Republican Party for decades. Front reads "Union League/July 4th/1776/1863/E Pluribus Unum/Philadelphia." Typically the reverse of this piece has text reading "Organized, Philadelphia, December 27th 1862." However this is a much scarcer variety, listed in Sullivan, which has a blank reverse and which he states is usually found suspended from a red white and blue ribbon; however this piece has not been holed for suspension. Essentially Mint except for the tarnish and patina.
