Item Description
The shield portion of this item is shown as DeWitt/Sullivan 1868-99a. The piece is unlisted in Hake but is a mate to Hake Seymour #3031. The piece is 1.5" tall and features a beautifully detailed flying eagle with it's neck turned and with a tiny loop at the beak suspending a shield with the ferrotype set in. Reverse has 1-3/16" vertical stickpin. There are numerous but tiny pinpoint black dots of emulsion off primarily the upper left quadrant and extreme outer edges. His entire image area displays beautifully and the detailing on the feathers of the eagle is quite remarkable. The Seymour mate to this piece has a $450.00 guide value in Hake 2007 Revised Prices.
