Item Description
Each is in response to July 29, 1980 Chicago Sun-Times column by Gary Deeb regarding Klinton Spilsbury’s bad bar behavior while filming “The Legend Of The Lone Ranger” in New Mexico. Both are typewritten, sent to columnist. Moore letter is 7.25x10.5”. Content includes thanks to Deeb after arriving home from personal appearance “Ole Kemo Sabay Keeps On The Move Thanking My Many Friends And Fans Who I Deeply Appreciate” and “Let’s Hope One Day In The Near Future We Can Pull Up A Piece Of Prairie And Palaver A Little”. Signed in ink “Clayton”. Wrather letter is 8.5x11” on “ Wrather Corporation Office Of The President” letterhead dated August 5, 1980 thanking Deebs, noting “Your Creative Writing Is Very Interesting”. Signed in ink. Both have two lt. horizontal folds as mailed. Moore letter is addressed to proper columnist, but wrong newspaper. VF. Wrather produced the Lone Ranger, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, and Lassie TV series in the 1950s and sued Clayton Moore to not wear the Lone Ranger mask. As Deebs column predicted, the Spilsbury film failed at the box office. Pair comes w/photocopy of Deebs article. Great reading and historical.
