Item Description
Very large 39.75x48.25" frame contains original India ink and mixed media art on artboard that has been professionally framed and double-matted to 29x37.5". This is a 1980s recreation by Doug West, who has since become one of the premiere sports artists, his professional work for MLB, NBA and NHL includes cover art, card art and lithographs. This painting is a recreation of artist John Buscema's cover to the Feb. 1969 "Silver Surfer" #4 comic book. The story "The Good, The Bad And The Uncanny" deals w/Thor's evil brother Loki battling the Silver Surfer to see if he is strong enough to defeat Thor, then convincing the Surfer to fight Thor in Asgard, as seen in this image, the battle takes place on the fabled Rainbow Bridge. West's art expands upon Buscema's original, as the comic book cover only showed a portion of the Silver Surfer's surfboard, not the whole board as seen here. An expanded view of Asgard also adds to the overall piece. Signed in ink by artist at lower right, signature blends w/image of Asgard. Painting displays Exc. Large and impressive, just like the knock-out fight it depicts, a must for Thor or Silver Surfer fans.
