Item Description
1-5/8x2-3/8" Cuban card from set distributed in packs of Diaz cigarettes. The cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. 85 cards are in the set, the largest and one of the scarcest of all 1920s Cuban card issues. Printed in dark brown w/photo on front along w/team, player name and position "Santa Clara B.B.C. Moore-Infielder." Card back includes number and description of the series w/offer for an album. Margin trim but both sides of card remain clean and image is very bold. Dobie Moore was a Negro League shortstop who played his entire Negro Leagues career with the Kansas City Monarchs. His career was ended abruptly by an off-field injury in the middle of his seventh season. Nicknamed "The Black Cat", Moore helped the Monarchs to three league titles (1923-1925), and one Colored World Series title in 1924. He was nominated and considered for the National HOF in 2006, but fell short of the needed 75% affirmative vote. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
