Item Description
1.75" picturing "Capt. John Birch." Button gives his birth and death dates spanning 1918-1945 and has additional caption "'First Casualty Of W.W.III.'" Lower left has several near pinpoint size scuffs with one removing a pinpoint of celluloid and surface paper. Other than this single white dot on his uniform the button displays Mint. The group was established in 1958 led by Robert Welch, Jr. (see next item). The organization took it's name from Birch, an American Baptist missionary and government intelligence officer who was shot by communist forces in China in 1945. Founder Welch declared Birch the first American casualty of the Cold War. Fred Koch founder of Koch Industries, was one of the founding members. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Scarce.
