Item Description
For information on this social advocate and very politically active woman see item #502. This item consists of 2.5x4.75x.75" deep cardboard box which is fabric and velvet lined. Lid has obvious edge wear and a long side panel is missing from the lid. Interior fabric has logo of maker "The Bailey Banks Biddle Co." famous Philadelphia jeweler. The ribbon badge is NM. At the top is a brass name plate with her name in lustrous brass lettering recessed within the frame. Below is fabric ribbon with loop joining to shield shaped brass suspension. Pictured on the front is Washington beneath Mount Vernon and with lower text "George Washington Bicentennial 1732-1932." Reverse of the piece shows aerial view of U.S. Capitol complex with panel below hand engraved "Mrs. J. Borden Harriman Presented By The" and with raised text "United States George Washington Bicentennial Commission." Unique.
