Item Description
Sizes are 7/8" to 1.5". First item in the group names organization founded in 1861 by the American Missionary Association. They organized teachers from the North and provided housing to them while setting up schools in the South for freed slaves and their children. Over 500 schools and colleges were founded in the South after the war so that African Americans could be educated as teachers, nurses and other professionals. This button carries the group's name along with the words "The Lincoln Thank Offering." Reverse has W&H paper used only 1900-1912. Next is 7/8" "Lincoln Club" button with W&H paper used 1900-1912. Third also with W&H paper was issued for his centennial with dates 1809-1909 and text "Compliments Of Chamberlin & Shaughnessy/Lincoln." Next is 1.5" related to the Grand Army Of The Republic. Text reads "Honor The Boys In Blue/Grand Army Day-Lakemont Park." This has W&H back paper and is c. 1915. Next also by W&H is rare portrait button although with a small and two long cello cracks on right side. This reads "1809-Lincoln Centennial-1909." Last with lightly stained W&H paper reads "Woman's World/Lincoln Club." This is covered in small craze marks but displays cleanly. The four pieces without damage are NM displaying Mint.
