8x11" vol. 1 #9, Sept. 1944 issue of "Puerto Rico Deportivo," an all sports publication. The incredible front cover photo features Satchel Paige in a K.C. Monarchs uniform holding a baseball while next to him holding a bat is Josh Gibson in a Homestead Grays uniform. This issue features a 2+ page article on Gibson. The two main pages of this article are on 5-6. The cover photo is repeated in a much smaller size. The detailed article deals with Gibson's career including mention of his prowess as a home run hitter, other stats, salary, teams and name checks several other players including Paige, Dizzy Dean, Ray Brown, Hank Greenberg and Carl Hubbel. This issue has some unfortunate insect damage but nothing impacts the cover photo or main article pages. The front cover has sliver missing from lower right, about .25x1.5". Top right corner of cover and first 18 pages have two small insect holes each about .25 inch in length. The remaining pages, 19-30 and back cover, have 5" long insect tunnel about 1/8" wide. This does appear on the final paragraph of the feature article which is continued from page 6, but all can still be read. Aside from this, still a clean copy and cover retains great eye appeal w/the photo of these two baseball legends and HOF members. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
