#1652 of 2,000 ©1969 by W.U.C.U.A. Maecenas Press-Random House. 13.5x18.5x2.75” thick canvas covered cardboard box designed like book has leather spine w/gold title text and leather strap closures. Inside has canvas covered insert folder matching inside of box w/large “Dali” facsimile signature in gold on front. Complete w/15 stiff paper portfolios, each 11.5x17” w/deckle edge. Top portfolio has printing info and ink stamp number “1652”. Next portfolio opens to title page which is hand signed “Dali” in pencil. Facing page has full page color print. Next 12 portfolios have 12 pages, each w/ individual chapter title on front, inside story text and individual full page color plate. Chapter titles include: “A Mad Tea Party, The Queens Croquet Ground, Who Stole The Tarts?, Advice From A Caterpillar”. Last portfolio has four pages titled “All In The Golden Afternoon” w/two page poem inside. Box has 4.5” seam split along faux spine edge, “Down The Rabbit Hole” portfolio cover has a few lt. moisture marks, otherwise set is Exc./NM. Portfolio box comes in original shipping box addressed to “Pickwick Book Shop” in Hollywood w/same ink stamp number “1652” on paper label on box insert bottom as portfolio. Complete w/original packing material. Some wear from shipping and some aging as stored. VG. A superbly designed and executed set by one of the most influential and gifted surrealist artists of the 20th century.
