Item Description
10 different, each is 3.5x5.25" with glossy photo front and postcard back. These are in the Standard Catalog Of Vintage Baseball Cards but with only six cards listed. On Cubanball.com their checklist is only eight cards. We believe what we are offering is a complete set of 10, or at the very least, more than ever previously cataloged. Each front features facsimile signature as well as text block at bottom left "Cortesia De Kellogg's Corn Flakes." Each reverse has matching ink stamp reading "Asoc Nac De Peloteros/Profesionales De Cuba" along w/image of a glove, baseball and crossed bats. Cards and SGC grades are: 70 EX+ 5.5 Roberto Ortiz; 60 EX 5 Adolfo Luque; 50 VG/EX 4 Saguita Hernandez; 40 VG 3 Roberto Estalella, Salvador Hernandez, Agapito Mayor, Lazaro Salazar, Napoleon Reyes; 30 Good 2 Adrian Zabala; 10 Poor 1 Tomas De La Cruz. All postcard backs are unused w/the exception of De La Cruz. Players featured in this set are from The Cuban Players League or Players Federation League. This was yet another alternative to the Cuban Winter League. It ran from October 30, 1947 through March 10, 1948 at La Tropical Stadium and was formed by a union established by Cuban players. The league was loaded with stars but administrative and financial problems led to the league lasting just one year. Individual cards are scarce and this is a very rare opportunity to obtain this many at one time. All have been designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
