Item Description
8.5x11" one-sided glossy paper sheet w/ring binder holes on left margin. These sheets were issued on a monthly basis to promote current products to store owners. This particular sheet is historically significant as it not only promotes the first Topps issue to feature baseball cards (predating their first official BB issue, the 1951 blue/red backs) but it is also the first gum card issue of any kind by the company. Topps also issued another card series under this name in 1956, but this is for the original issue sold throughout 1949 (ACC# R714-27). Photo is of an open and full display box, lying in front of this are examples of the "Developing Wrapper, Quiz Photo Card" and card for boxing legend Jack Dempsey. The series had many different subsets including a vast array of sports stars for: boxing, baseball, football, track and field, as well as movie stars, inventors, military leaders, etc. Text about the series appears on the bottom of the sheet along w/pricing info. Clear tape strips affixed to top margin w/staining. Rest of sheet is clean w/just lt. handling wear. VF. An exceptional Topps piece.
