Item Description
17.5x22.5". In 1973 Joe Torres, a Chicano 23 year old Vietnam Vet, was arrested in a bar for disorderly conduct. He was beaten then taken to the city jail which refused to process him due to his injuries. The officers were ordered to take him to the hospital but they took him to Buffalo Bayou and pushed him into the water. His body was found two days later. The officers were convicted of negligent homicide and their light sentences sparked riots one year later on the anniversary of his death in 1978. The Moody Park 3 were arrested protesters at the event organized by the group "People United To Fight Police Brutality" created by the R.C.P. with both groups named on this poster (See #376). Poster text demands an end to oppression of minorities and refers to "The Capitalist System That Unleashes These Dogs In Uniform Against The People." In addition to the two named groups poster has block lower right with ink stamp of NYC "Revolution Books" on 18th Street. Small creases near top center, tanning of left and lower margins and reverse is 85% tanned from laying on other pages. Displays Fine. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
