Item Description
8" tall ornate silverplate pitcher has high relief script "Gannymede 76 Whiskey" text on side w/two-headed eagle logo above. This logo references the eagle who picked up the Ganymede of Greek mythology, a young shepherd who caught the eye of Zeus, who sent an eagle to bring him to Mount Olympus, where he became an immortal and served as cupbearer to the gods. The Sigmund Freiberg Distillery of Cincinnati, OH aggressively marketed its products w/a number of giveaways and is particularly known for its heavily ornamented shot glasses and whiskey glasses. This 1920s-1930s water pitcher (w/bracing at spout to catch ice cubes) was silverplated by Queen City Silver Co. of Cincinnati and was likely produced as a promotional item for important clients or higher ups in the company. Scattered lt. aging/wear but still displays Exc. High quality piece.
