Item Description
Each piece shows 34 star flag. Reverses are blank. The two without portrait have a narrow folded and glued panel on right reverse edge as these were designed to be carried on a hat pin or thin wood dowel so they could be waved at memorial services or at the funeral train taking Lincoln to Illinois. The two larger have maker name on lower right corner “Lybrand.” In order of size, the first is 4.25x4.5” with small chips off irregular left edge. Top edge has .25” tear. Second reads: “We Mourn! Our Chief Has Fallen.” This is 3-5/8x4.5”. Upper left corner has 3/8” tear. Last reads: “The Nation Mourns A Martyred Father.” 2.25x4-5/8”. All three have minor bit of tan age tone. Scarce paper flags from just after the assassination April 14, 1865.
