Item Description
1" with much bright brass luster. This is DeWitt 1860-59 and he notes this was one of the earliest pro-Lincoln medalets made in Waterbury, Connecticut. One side has beautiful spread-wing eagle with slogan "Success To Republican Principles." The other side reads "Millions For Freedom Not One Cent For Slavery." This version includes palm sprays, a star and the 1860 date on the side with the anti-slavery slogan but DeWitt notes the dies broke after producing only several hundred and in the rush to produce new dies, these aspects were left off the second version he lists as AL 1860-60.
