Item Description
15/16", holed as made, with full names and date on the brass rim which has beautiful brilliant luster. DeWitt lists this piece as 1860-38 but his example has what he calls Douglas photo #3 whereas this piece has what he calls Douglas photo #1. The Douglas emulsion has two tiny dots at far right without gloss, these are 1/16" or less. The emulsion surface has microscopic tiny lines, for practical purposes invisible without a magnifying glass. Also barely showing without a magnifying glass is a 1/32" black line above his eye at the left. The Douglas side displays fully Mint and the Johnson side is about as Mint as possible. A very high grade example and a rare photo variety.
